CHITTAGONG: A tribunal here on Wednesday sentenced two youths, who escaped on bail to life-terms in prison for raping a garment worker after abducting her in Chittagong, reports UNB.
The convicts are Rafiqul Islam Prokash Mamun, a resident of Khulna, and Jahirul Haq hailing from Noakhali.
Judge Motahar Ali of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 delivered the sentence.
The tribunal fined the duo Tk. 20,000, in default of which they will have to stay an additional three months in jail with manual labour.
However the punishment can only be enforced once the police manage to arrest them, as both escaped while on bail.
The case statement said the convicted criminals abducted Shilpi Akter, a garment worker, after luring her with promises of a job and raped her by turn in 2009.
Later, Shilpi Akter filed a rape case against them at Double Mooring police station. Public prosecutor of the tribunal M A Naser confirmed the verdict.
