Dhaka-based Kushtia Zilla Samity formed a human chain in front of National Press Club in the capital on Wednesday demanding the nationalisation of Kumarkhali M. N. Pilot High School, reports UNB.
Over 300 people, including the former students, current students, teachers, school officials and local people, participated in the human chain to place their one-point demand. Dhaka-based Kushtia Zilla Samity president Akteruzzaman, also the former additional secretary of the government, presided over the human chain.
Mentioning that the traditional and the oldest school of the district was established in 1858, Akteruzzaman urged the prime minister to take necessary attempts to nationalise the school to protect the heritage of the district. M Shahidul Islam, headmaster of the school, said the 162 years-old school is situated over 8.5 acre of land.
“However, we don’t know why the school is not being nationlaised,” the headmaster added.
Cultural personality of the district, Liton Abbas said novelist, playwright and essayist Mir Mosharraf Hossain, pioneer of journalism in Bangladesh Kangal Harinath, former vice chancellor of Dhaka University Ramesh Chandra Majumdar and the inaugural editor of Kolkata-based Anandabazar Patrika Prafulla Kumar Sarkar, were the among other prominent personalities who had studied in the school.
