BCL 70th founding anniversary celebration
Clash suspends programme in Barisal

The founding anniversary programme of Barisal city unit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), a student front of ruling Awami League, was postponed after attack by a faction of the party in the city on Wednesday night.
Jashim Uddin, president of Barisal city unit BCL, organised a founding anniversary programme on Nooria School premises on Wednesday night. Hearing the news, a faction of city unit BCL, led by Rais Ahmed, joint secretary of same unit, attacked the programme at 10:30pm on Wednesday and ransacked the stage, chair and four motor cycles.
They also damaged the cake of the programme. The incident created panic in Alekanda area of the city. Police later rushed to the spot and took the situation under control. After the attack, BCL city unit postponed their programme of founding anniversary and left the spot.
On the other hand, district unit BCL brought out a procession in the city yesterday morning marking the day.
They paid homage to Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing wreath at his portrait at Sohel square of the city.
AL city unit President Advocate Golam Abbas Chowdury Dulal, Secretary Advocate Md Jahangir and others addressed the programme. To mark the day, a student gathering was held at Sohel Square of the city with city BCL district unit president Sumon Serniabat in the chair.
Speakers of the meeting demanded implement of highest punishment of the war criminals. They also demand immediate arrest of Jamaat leaders and identified war criminals. A colorful rally later was brought out from the meeting venue and paraded almost all the main streets of the city.
