Chinese enterprise to reconstruct Bangladesh railways

On December 27, 2017, a contract was concluded between China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group Co., Ltd. and Bangladesh Railway in Dhaka for a railway reconstruction project involving an investment of 1.545 billion US dollars.

The railway runs from Akhaura to Sylhet in north-eastern Bangladesh, where resources abound and economy is well-developed. The railway has a total length of 176 kilometres. The project contents cover subgrades, bridges, culverts, station yards, station buildings and tracks. And the reconstruction will last four years and a half.

On the one hand, according to observers, the implementation of the project will promote capacity cooperation between the two countries; on the other hand, the project will mainly use local labours, so it will provide local people with a lot of employment opportunities during the construction.(Xinhua)
