Stocks extend loss to 3rd consecutive session

Continued sell-off and choppy trading the extending the losing streak of the stock market for the third consecutive day yesterday on choppy trading while investors were reluctant in making fresh investments in the secondary stocks, reports BSS.
The broader price index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) fell marginally to 4,792.93 when the blue-chip DS30 and the Shariah DSES closed flat upwards at 1,832.92 and 1,178.31 respectively.
Market analysts said mixed economic data made investors largely shaky in making fresh investment decision, bringing the transaction as well as price indices down.
The daily trade value, however, was 14.32 up at Tk 456.55 crore, with the volume following it by 13.34 percent rise to 11.68 crore shares.
Despite the rise in the daily transaction, market remained in favour of sellers as 146 issues closed lower against 106 advancing securities.
Cement, NBFI, tannery and telecom were the major advancing sectors when bank and food and allied sectors lost most.
The day’s top five advancing issues were Apex Food, IBN Sina, Eastern Lubricant, Samorita Hospital and Apex Tannery. The major losers were Samata Leather, All Tex, Prime Insurance, LR Global and Sonar Bangla Insurance. Squire topped the turnover list followed by Lafarge Surma, SPCL, APEX Tannery, UPGDCL and RSRM steel.
Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed yesterday lower, with its major CSCX index losing 15.95 points to finish the day at 8941.03.
A total of 88.83 crore shares worth Taka 32.16 crore changed hands on the day when 64 issues closed higher and 142 lower among traded 241 securities.
