4 ‘robbers’held in Old Dhaka   

Members of Detective Branch of police arrested four suspected robbers from different areas of the Old Dhaka on Monday night.

The arrestees were identified as Masud, Gazi, Md Idris, Asad and Faruk Ahmmed. Abdul Baten, joint commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan detective police, at a press briefing at DMP's media centre yesterday said that a team of DB police arrested Masud from the old part of city along with Tk 2 lakh.

After gleaning information from Masud, the team arrested Idris, Asad and Faruk from the same area along with Tk 11 lakh, he added. The DB official also said that the arrestees had involvement with a robbery incident in a jewellery shop at Ray Saheb Bazar intersection under Kotwali Police Station. A gang of robbers numbering 10-11 looted Tk 5,1 67,000 from the shop on December 14 last year.

Schoolboy killed in road crash

BARISAL: A schoolboy was killed as a motorcycle hit him on Janukisingh road in Kaunia area of the city on Sunday evening.

The deceased was identified as Tanvir, son of Delwar Hossain and class-III student of Uttar Kaunia Government Primary School. Md Nurul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kaunia Police Station, said that the motorcycle ran over Tanvir while he was returning home after receiving is result from the school in the evening, leaving him critically injured. Later, the injured was rushed to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Fire at N’ganj textile mill

NARAYANGANJ:  A textile mill caught fire at Godnyle under Siddhirganj Police Station of the city on Monday night.

The fire erupted at Ibrahim Composite Textile Mills Ltd around 8:20pm, said duty officer Ataur Rahman at the Fire Service and Civil Defence central control room.

On information, six firefighting units from Demra, Haziganj and Mondalpara rushed in and brought the blaze under control around 9:50pm. The origin of the fire could not be known immediately and there was no report of any casualty in the incident, Ataur added.
