2 ‘Neo JMB men’ on remand

CHITTAGONG: A Chittagong court yesterday placed two Neo-JMB (Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh) men, on a seven-day remand in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Abu Salem Mohammad Noman, a Metropolitan Magistrate of Chittagong court passed the order after Investigative Officer of the case and Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit (CTTC) Inspector Aftab Ahmed produced Md Ashfakur Rahman alias Abu Zahir Al-Bangali, and Rakibul Hasan Jony alias Abu Taif Al Bangali, before the court, seeking a ten-day remand for them.

Earlier, counter terrorism unit of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) early yesterday arrested two suspected members of banned militant outfit Neo- JMB along with 10 grenades from a housing society under Sadarghat police station in the city on Monday night. AAM Humayun Kabir, additional deputy commissioner of Chittagong Detective Branch of Police, said they raided Minu Bhaban, a five-storey building of city housing society, in the area around 11:30 pm on Monday and arrested them along with ten-live grenades and two maps. They were planning to attack on Sadarghat police station, he added.

A case was lodged against the duo under Anti-terrorism Act.
