Mashrafe Bin Mortaza was unfazed by the challenging job of guiding the team in absence of a head coach, saying that it was no different responsibility that he was holding right after being appointed as the captain of the limited version cricket.
With Khaled Mahmud Sujon terming as the technical director what in a sense is coordinating, BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon revealed that Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Shakib Al Hasan would act as a shadow coach of the team. What Papon actually wanted to mean that the duo would have to take more responsibility considering the post they are holding.
“I don’t think I would have to do different things,” said Mashrafe. “What he (Nazmul Hassan Papon) meant that we, as a captain and senior player of the team, would have to take more responsibility since there is no official coach at the moment.”
“But as a senior player and captain of the team, we always take some responsibility. It is normal matter. I don’t think this time around, we should do something different. Because something different may result in something bad. I think the way we are progressing, we just should maintain it.”
What Mashrafe believes is that one bad series in South Africa shook Bangladesh in such extent that everyone is mulling for a change. According to Mashrafe, this change may cause something bad and therefore he stressed upon the needs of doing the same thing that helped them become so successful.
“Yes, we didn’t have any good moment in South Africa. But every team in the world goes through some sort of bad phase in some point. For Bangladesh, it was South Africa series. So I don’t think it’s a major problem. We shouldn’t think about South Africa series now. We should think about the upcoming result,” the ODI skipper reckoned.
“You can’t consider everything with just one bad series. We were also whitewashed in three formats of cricket in New Zealand but the situation wasn’t that worse that time. But there is no reason to think that due to the bad result in South Africa, we would be down psychologically in the upcoming series. Home and away series is totally different,” he reminded.
But Mashrafe admitted that the players are still upset by the result in South Africa. He at the same time believed that the players are now determined to turn the grief into strength in the upcoming triangular and bilateral series.
“Triangular series is very important for us. Definitely we have the plan to win it. Everybody is upset after the South Africa series. If we can win the triangular series, the situation would be different.”
Mashrafe however also reminded his colleagues to abide by the code of conduct set by the BCB. His comment came in the wake of the stern punishment suggestion against Sabbir Rahman and Tamim Iqbal both of whom were recommended to slap fine of TK. 20 lakh and 5 lakh to breach the code of conduct.
“Everyone should know that our behvaiour and other activities are closely followed by not only BCB, but also the fans and other aged level teams. So we shouldn’t do such things that could make adverse impact. We have to be more careful.”
