Four workers were killed and several others injured in a mudslide while extracting stones from a quarry in Jaflong area of Goainghat upazila of Sylhet yesterday afternoon, reports UNB. The deceased, including a female, could not be identified yet. Shamsul Alam Sarkar, Additional Superintendent of Police, said a portion of mud collapsed on a group of workers around 4:30pm while they were extracting stones from the quarry at Mondirer Jum. Four workers died on the spot while several others suffered injuries, he said. Earlier last year, six people, including five teenage boys, were killed and several others were injured in a landslide at Kanaighat in Sylhet, when
they were extracting underground stones from a hillock on November 7. The incident took place while around 15 people were lifting underground stones illegally from Banglatila, a hillock near the River Lobhachhara. A huge chunk of earth of the hillock collapsed on the victims, leaving the six buried and others injured.
