Awami League Advisory Council Member Suranjit Sengupta has urged the government to avoid the culture of extra-judicial killing that, what he claimed, had been introduced in the country during the BNP-Jamaat tenure in name of suppressing terrorist activities. “The BNP-introduced culture of extra-judicial killing should not be used to minimise intra-party feuds in the Awami League. Intra-party conflicts in AL and its associate bodies should be removed through establishing ideology of Bangabandhu within the bodies,” he said.
The senior ruling party leader was addressing a discussion organized by Bangabandhu Academy at the Institution of Diploma Engineers’ in the capital. He sought Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s intervention to end this ‘bloody gunfight culture’ immediately.
“Internal conflict inside a certain political party is a political crisis, so it should be resolved politically,” he said. At the same time, he suggested that the AL should first reestablish discipline in its student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and in other associate bodies gradually to bring an end to the ongoing internal party feuds.
He also underscored the need for formation of a taskforce led by AL senior leaders including party General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam, presidium members Tofail Ahmed and Obaidul Quader, in a bid to minimise internal conflicts in the party and its different associate bodies.
According to media reports, over 40 leaders and activists of the ruling AL and its different associate bodies got killed in the last one month due to internal conflicts within the parties.
Meanwhile, at a separate programme, Awami League Publicity and Publication Affairs Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud alleged that the BNP-Jamaat alliance is engaged in hatching fresh conspiracy to create an anarchic situation in the country.
“After being defeated politically, the BNP-Jamaat has now started practicing the politics of extremism. BNP had always assumed power using back doors and now they are engaged in funding militant activities in a bid to create anarchy in the country,” he said. He was addressing a discussion in the city organized to mark the 11th death anniversary of AL leader Ivy Rahman.
