Selims claim untrue: JSD

BNP?asks information minister Inu

The Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) yesterday termed ‘untrue and motivated’ a recent remark by Awami League leader Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim blaming the party for creating a situation that led to the killing of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Meanwhile, BNP yesterday demanded the resignation of JSD president and Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu resign if he fails to clarify his role in the 1975 killing. JSD, which is part of the AL-led 14-party ruling alliance, in a statement yesterday, said: “After an elaborate investigation into the Bangabandhu murder…..and a court ruling in the case, it has already been proven that JSD had no complicity in the killing. Even after that, Sheikh Selim’s claim in this regard is not only untrue, but also motivated.”
“Such an allegation will help develop a crack in the unity of the AL-led grand alliance,” added the statement, signed by JSD executive president Moinuddin Khan Badal and general secretary Sharif Nurul Ambia.
At a press conference in the capital yesterday, BNP spokesperson Asaduzzaman Ripon said JSD was responsible for the instability and anarchic situation between 1972 and 1975, when Inu was one of the main leaders of the left-leaning party.  “We would like to tell Mr Inu that please don’t give sermons on democracy to the nation. You were the enemy of democracy and jeopardised it,” Ripon said. “He (Inu) has to clarify to the nation about what happened during that period,” he added. On Sunday, AL presidium member Sheikh Selim remarked that JSD had paved the path for the assassination of Bangabandhu.
