Md Nojibur Rahman, the current NBR chairman and senior secretary of the Internal Resources Division, has been appointed as the principal secretary to the Prime Minister, according to sources at the public administration ministry. He will succeed Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury. Sources say Rahman was chosen ahead of other contenders like Mozammel Haque Khan, the current senior secretary to the public
administration ministry. Talking to the Independent, Rahman said he would perform his level best in the new capacity. The new position will put him at par with the Cabinet secretary in the civil service rank. According to Bangladesh’s warrant of precedence, the principal secretary is just below the Cabinet secretary but above the chiefs of the Army, Navy and Air Force.
Rahman, a cadre of the 1982 BCS batch, had headed the forest and environment ministry and the planning ministry’s Statistics and Informatics Division prior to his job as revenue chief. He also headed the Department of Environment as its director general. Rahman, who was born in 1960 in the northeastern district of Sunamganj, is due to retire on December 30, 2019.
