BRAC Bank official Naimul Islam has gone missing since Tuesday, according to his family. His wife, Tamanna Khan, filed a general diary (GD) with Tejgaon industrial police station in this connection on Wednesday. Tamanna stated in the GD that Naimul works in the Shyamoli branch of BRAC Bank. He was supposed to go to the bank's head office on Tuesday. From there, he was to meet a friend. Tamanna last talked to her husband at 1pm on Tuesday. When she called again at 2 pm, she found Naimul's phone switched off. When contacted, Naimul’s friend told Tamanna that he had met Naimul at 12.15pm and then left him at Kuril. Abdur Rashid, officer-in-
charge of Tejgoan industrial police station, told the Independent that they are looking for Naimul Islam.
Naimul’s phone was found switched off since 4pm on Tuesday. He was last spotted in the Niketon residential area.
“No one has so far contacted his family for ransom. But we know that he runs a business besides doing a bank job. So, we’re also looking into the possibility of any enmity over business deals. Finding him is the main thing. Currently, we’ve no suspects,” the police officer said.
Naimul’s village home is in Barisal. He used to stay in Mirpur No. 2 in Dhaka with his family.
Since August 14, a number of people have gone missing from the capital alone. Five of them, including Aniruddha, Utpal and Mubashar, have since returned home, while police is said to have arrested three others. The fate of six others, including that of Maroof Jaman, an ex-envoy, is not clear yet.
