RANGPUR: Government officials at a workshop yesterday laid emphasis on localisation of the implementation process of sustainable development goals (SDGs) to attain its all 17 goals and 169 targets by 2030, reports BSS. They came up with the opinion at the workshop on ‘Localisation of the implementation process of SDGs, investment planning, creating private sector entrepreneurs and enhancing skill’ held at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room in Nilphamari district town.
Nilphamari district administration organised the workshop with assistance of the Governance Innovation Unit (GIU) of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Chairmen of all upazila and union parishads, Upazila Nirbahi Officers, government officials of different departments, local entrepreneurs, civil society members, teachers, students and journalists participated in the workshop.
Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed attended the workshop as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner of Nilphamari Mohammad Khaled Rahim in the chair.
Police Super of Nilphamari Zakir Hossain Khan, Secretary of Nilphamari Zila Parisahd Shamsul Azam, Additional District Magistrate Azharul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mujibur Rahman, Civil Surgeon Dr Ranjeet Kumar Barman, addressed, as special guests. Deputy Director (Local Government) for Nilphamari Motaleb Hossain delivered welcome speech narrating primary concepts of the set 17 goals and 169 targets of the SDGs to be achieved by 2030.
The speakers discussed on the necessity of preparing and adoption of planning and formulation of effective strategies and action plans at local levels to attain the set goals and targets of the SDGs. The chief guest narrated about the tremendous successes already attained through achieving the millennium development goals (MDGs) by 2015 last in raising the status of the country to lower middle income nation.
