PM comes in aid of ailing journo
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has donated Tk 10 lakh to meet treatment expenses of ailing Chief Reporter of the Daily Bhorer Kagoj Syed Aktaruzzaman Siddique Lovelu. Prime Ministers Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim on behalf of the Prime Minister handed over the cheque of the financial assistance to Syed Aktaruzzaman Siddique Lovelu at the Prime Ministers Office on Thursday. Syed Aktaruzzaman recently returned home after treatment at a hospital in India.
Patuakhali Zilla Parishad Chairman takes oath
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday administered oath to newly elected Patuakhali Zilla Parishad Chairman Khalilur Rahman Mohan at her office in the capital.
Prime Ministers Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said newly elected Chairman of Patuakhali Zilla Parishad Khalilur Rahman was sworn in at the Prime Ministers Office. LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Engineer Khandkar Mosharraf Hossain was present on the occasion, while Local Government Division Secretary Abdul Malek conducted the ceremony.
5 robbers arrested at Ashulia
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested five robbers at Ashulia outskirt of the capital yesterday. The RAB-2 detective team, on the basis of secret information, conducted a raid around 11:30 last night at Savar Mausoleum and arrested them, while two robbers managed to escape the scene, said a press release.
They were M Helal Hossain alias Rana, 45, M Zakir Hossain alias Babu, 32, M Jewel Rana, 35, M Saiful Islam,43, and M Mamun Hossain,24. The elite force also recovered two foreign made pistols, four magazines, 10 round of bullets, two sharp knives, eight mobile phone sets and eight SIM cards from them. Legal action is being taken against them, the release added.
Three women arrested with 7000 yaba tablets in Ctg
Members of Narcotics Control Department (NCD) in Chittagong in a drive arrested three female drug traders with 7000 pieces of contraband Yaba tablets and 300 gram heroin from citys Borisal colony early yesterday. The arrested people were identified as Rasheda Begum, 50, Sherin Akter, 45, and Monowara Begum, 48. Based on secret information, a team of NCD arrested Resheda Begum, Sherin Akter and Monowara Begum with 7000 pieces of Yaba tablets and 300 gram heroin from citys Barisal colony under Sadarghat thana around 5 am, NCD deputy director Shamim Ahmed said. A case was filed against them with respective police station in this connection, the NCD official added.
US embassy to remain closed January 1
The United States Embassy in Dhaka will remain closed on Monday, January 1, 2018 on the occasion of New Years Day, an American holiday.
These closures include the Consular Section and the American Centers Archer K. Blood Library and Education USA Student Advising Center, a US embassy press release said here today. However, emergency services for American citizens will be available through the duty officer (phone 885566-2000).
AABMA gets news office bearers
Capt Saifur Rahman and Engr Mahbubur Rahman were elected president and general secretary respectively of Alumni Association of Bangladesh Marine Academy (AABMA) for the year 2018-2019, said a press release here yesterday (Thursday).
The new AABMA committee was announced after election held on December 24 while Captain M Habibur Rahman conducted the election as chief election commissioner.
Capt Hasan Quddus and Engr Fazle Rashid were elected vice presidents, while Engr Faisal Al Asaduzzaman, assistant secretary, Capt MA Malek, treasurer, Capt AS Chowdhury, Capt. Anam Chowdhury, Capt KI Majumder, Capt Saydur Rahman, Engr Arifur Rahman Khan, Engr Harunor Rashid, Kazi Md Abu Sayed, Md Saiful Islam Bhuiyan and Md Imran Wahid Emon were elected as executive members for the new committee.
