NARAYANGANJ: A suspected gang leader was killed in a gunfight with detectives near Kanchan Bridge in Rupganj upazila early yesterday, reports UNB. The deceased was identified as Sharif, an accused in 15 cases, including that of robbery, filed with different police stations. Acting on secret information that a gang of 'robbers' was preparing for committing robberies, a team of detective branch of police conducted a drive in the area around 4:30 am, said officer-in-charge of DB Mahbubur Rahman. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the 'robbers' opened fire on them, forcing them to retaliate, triggering the gunfight. After half an hour of gunfight, the law enforcers recovered the 'robber’'s bullet-hit body.
