Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club dropped two valuable points and lost the chance to regain the top spot in the Saif Power Battery Bangladesh Premier League football when they made a one all draw against Saif Sporting Club yesterday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
After the draw of this match, the championship fight turned into super climax when three teams are staying closely on point table with reigning champions Abahani are leading with 45, Jamal in second with 44 and Ctg Abahani 43 when all of them completed their 19th round and three matches to play.
Chittagong Abahani, who have been leading the points table since the first round to 17th round, saw their last setback after dropping points to Brothers with a 1-1 draw that pushed back to third position and Abahani who were closely following them went on top.
However, the match got off with huge tempo when Saif Sporting enjoyed the initial possession and also went ahead in the very eighth minute.
After the initial drawback Jamal sounded well with equalising the margin on 22nd minute when with Solomon King fired home a free kick.
The madcap affair between two teams bereft of offensive dignity only begins to tell the story. This was a topsy-turvy tale in which Jamal came back from behind to equalise with only 12 minutes later after conceding goal early in the eighth minute and the equaliser led the match to cap a chaotic peak.
Sheringham made the breakthrough when it was a strong move on eighth minute through the midway and the English forward superbly finished on a Matin Meah cross (1-0).
Inspired by early lead, the newly promoted Saif kept two times title holders Jamal under tremendous pressure but could not open spaces to increase the tally. After falling behind to Sheringham’s close range strike after seven minutes, Jamal rallied with the impressive midfielder Matin Meah and then Solomon king crashing home to help experienced Jamal got the equaliser on 22nd minute (1-1).
After the one all draw, both the sides stride on to take lead and Jamal produced the opportunity on 28th minute but Nurul Absaar could not capitalised the chance which came to him but having the ball in an open space, he entered into the box after breaking the offside trap but shot the ball over the advancing goalkeeper.
Saif also opened scoring chances twice but Valencia failed to connect a Rahmat Meah free kick on 44th while a Kabirul superb left footer on a Valencia set a cross inside the area deflected a defender for corner on 63rd minute.
Rest of the time both sides worked hard to finish with winning not but could not make it success.
