BCB mulls to reduce a Test match with Zimbabwe

Sports Reporter

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is mulling to reduce a Test from the original three-match  series against Zimbabwe in the beginning of the next year.
Zimbabwe are scheduled to play a full series against Bangladesh in January-February, consisting three Tests, as many ODIs and Twenty20 matches.
Keeping the players injury as a result of playing long series in mind, the BCB said they want to make it two-match Test series instead of three.
Cricket Operations chairman Naimur Rahman Durjoy said that they would send a letter to their Zimbabwe counterpart in this regard, adding that, they will prepare the itinerary of the series after their approval.
“We have series against Australia, then BPL, so there will have a lot of pressure over our players. They have to play a good number of matches. They have to recover if they get  injured. Even the team management wanted to reduce a one-day from three-match ODI series. But we didn’t do it,” said Durjoy.
“Most of the front-line pacers are in bit injury. If they play more Test matches they will be in danger to get injured. They need some more times to recover it. In that sense, we want to reduce a Test match from the series.
“We are in talks with Zimbabwe. We have given a proposal to them, where we wanted to play two Tests in place of three.”
The series against Zimbabwe however will coincide the ICC Under 19 World Cup for which the BCB would avoid Dhaka. So it will be the first time that the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS), known as the ‘home of cricket’ will not host any international match during a home series of Bangladesh since its inception in 2006.
“Zimbabwe series and ICC Under-19 World Cup will run simultaneously. There was a difficulty over grounds. But we have taken it separately. In Zimbabwe series, we have avoided Dhaka, where there will be held no matches of the series.”
