Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested four members of the banned militant outfit Ansar Al Islam from Puthia upazila in Rajshahi on Monday night. The arrestees included a mid-level leader, Md Hayatullah Rubel alias Masud (32), said Rab-5 commanding officer Lt Col Mahbubul Alam at a press conference held yesterday. The others, identified as Abdur Rahim (30) Mizanur Rahman Mridha (30), and Mukul Hossain (32), were believed to be active members of the banned outfit. A team of RAB-5 from the Rajshahi headquaters caught these people during a drive around 7.15pm when they gathered on a field in Bhoruapara village to hold a secret meeting. Some of their associates managed to escape during the raid. The RAB members seized seven Jihadi books from their possession. The RAB chief said some areas of Bhoruapara and its neighbouring Jamira and Mahendra have long been a safe haven for militants. Earlier, law enforcers had arrested several militants from these villages. Many young men in these area have been radicalised through Quran education classes and speeches of Jasim Uddin Rahmani and Abdur Razzak Bin Yousuf, said Mahbubul Alam.
