Reckless bus drivers
Sir,
Who rules the roads of our capital city? The answer would obviously be 'the unruly bus drivers.' I have never witnessed Formula One car race except on television, but I can bet that even Formula One drivers would be taken aback to see the race which takes place in the Bangladesh capital by the bus drivers everyday.
A few days back I was on board a bus when I realised that our driver was on an undeclared race with another passenger bus running parallel to ours. As I shouted at the bus driver he reluctantly retired from his open race. I am afraid the race would have ended in a fatal accident and maybe the death of many innocent people, including myself.
I am surprised to find that passengers do not protest rash driving or reprimand an unruly bus driver.
It is the duty of every conscious citizen to protest against rash driving. Media reports suggest that from January 01 to May 12, as many as 1,238 people died in 696 accidents.
Besides law enforcers, we also have an important role to play in bringing discipline on the road for our own safety and security.
