The speakers at a discussion yesterday said the Vice-Chancellors of public universities should take necessary steps to hold the elections of Central Students Unions (CSU) that have been halted for over two decades, reports UNB. The speakers came up with the remarks while addressing a discussion programme titled "Why we need RUCSU" organised by Bangladesh Chhatra Federation of RU unit at the Rajshahi University deans' complex. "The elections to the Central Students Unions of universities across the country depend on the sincerity of vice chancellors and pro-vice chancellors. If they want, they can hold the election anytime," the speakers said. Among the speakers Ganosanghati Andolan Rajshahi unit convener Murad Morshed alleged that the university authorities are not allowing the polls fearing it may restrict their continuous malpractices in different sectors.
"According to different media everyone including students, teachers, VCs and chancellors are willing to hold the CSU polls. Then why it has been delayed for past two decades?" asked RU senate student representative Sadequl Khan Babul.
They also urged the concerned authorities to take effective steps to create a positive environment for the CSU election to bring back democracy in the university campuses. RUCSU former social welfare affairs secretary, Mustafizur Rahman, also spoke at the discussion with Chhatra Federation president Kingshuk Kinjal in the chair.
