Harunur Rashid re-elected president of Dhanmondi Club
Former lawmaker Harunur Rashid was elected unopposed as the president of Dhanmondi Club Ltd for the fourth term on Friday, says a press release. The other ten executive committee members are--SAM Showket Hossain, Arif Masud Chowdhury, Md Azizul Haque (Ratan), Md Waliullah Bakul, Md Rakibul Karim Khan (Pappu), Mir Mohammad Zakir Hossain Shopon, Didaral Alam Chowdhury, Engr Mostofa Kamal, Joshoda Jibon Deb Nath, and Hazi Eliasur Rahman Babul.
Teacher falls to death
An elderly former school teacher died after falling from the rooftop of a three-storied building in Chittagong city on Friday morning.
The victim was identified as Mukter Ahmed, a former senior teacher of Bakalia Government High School.
Chittagong Medical College police outpost sources said Muktar Ahmed fell from the rooftop of a three-storey building while giving water on his rooftop garden at West Bakalia under Bakalia thana in the city.
Later, he was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where the duty doctors declared him dead. The body was sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy
Ambulance donated to CCC
Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited has provided an ambulance to Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) under its CSR activities.
Arastoo Khan, Chairman of the bank handed over the key of the ambulance to Md Shamsuddoha, chief executive officer of CCC on Thursday at Islami Bank Tower, said a press release. Md. Mahbub-ul-Alam, additional managing director, Abu Reza Md. Yeahia and JQM Habibullah FCS, deputy managing directors, Md. Mostafizur Rahman Siddiquee, senior executive vice president and Moshtaque Ahmed, vice president of the bank were present on the occasion.
Youth electrocuted in Rajshahi
A young man was electrocuted at Narayanpur village in Rajshahi on Friday.
Mominul Islam, 18, son of Kabil Hossain, of Elamdohi village, who worked as s day -labourer, came in contact of a live wire when he was cutting branches of a mango tree and died on the spot, said Saiful Islam, sub-inspector of Tanore Police Station.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.
Steel mill catches fire
A fire broke out in a steel mill in Kadamtali area in the capital early Saturday.
The fire broke out at ‘Rahim Ispat and Steel Factory’ around 1:30am. On information, two firefighting units rushed to the spot and doused the flame around 2:50am. No casualty was reported immediately.
Biker found dead in Sylhet
A motor bike driver’s chopped body was found in Laxmiprasad Pashchim union of Sylhet on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Rubel Ahmed, 25, son of late freedom fighter Abdul Matin, and a resident of Sonatonpunji village of the union.
Locals found a chopped body of an unidentified youth in an area adjacent to Koruna Dighir graveyard of the union in the morning and informed police.
3 held with phensidyl in Ctg
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested three alleged drug peddlers along with 987 bottles of phensedyl and a covered van on Dhaka-Chittagong highway nearby Bhatiari officers’ residential area of Sitakunda upazila in Chittagong on Thursday.
The arrestees are - Md Jamal, 25, son of late Mir Ayub, Md Omar Faruk, 34, son of Abdul Karim, and Md Azad, 23, son of Shamsur Rahman, all hailing from Sarkarpara of Bhujpur thana in Chittagong, said a press statement.
