The second round of National Vitamin ‘A’ Plus campaign began in Chittagong, Rajshahi and Rangpur and other cities yesterday with a target of administering vitamin A capsules to babies. Acting Chittagong city Mayor Neser Uddin Ahmed Monju formally inaugurated the city level campaign at Matri Sadan Hospital yesterday morning in Chittagong. Chittagong Civil Surgeon Office has a target to bring 7,53,738 children under vitamin 'A' Plus campaign. About 4,000 volunteers and health assistants were engaged for giving vitamin 'A' Plus capsules to the children in 1,288 centres under 41 wards of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC). CCC has targeted around 5.42 lakh children to administer vitamin 'A' Plus capsules.
Chittagong Civil Surgeon Office has appointed over 1,000 volunteers and health assistants to administer vitamin 'A' Plus capsules in 4,861 centres under 14 upazilas of the district to bring 7, 51,738 children under the campaign.
CCC Officials said several mobile teams consisting of 278 members in port city and 470 members in the district would be engaged to feed oral vaccines to the children at rail, bus and steamer stations as well as other places in next four days. In Rajshahi, Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Musaddique Hossain Bulbul inaugurated the city level campaign at green plaza. Ward Councilors Nurun Nahar and Nasima Khanom and Chief Health Officer Dr Anzuman Ara Begum were present, among others, concerned there.
In the city, around 61,460 children under five years of age were administered vitamin 'A' Plus capsules. The campaign began at 8am at 384 centres, including 343 permanent and 41 mobile ones, simultaneously.
Another report adds from Rangpur: Health experts here said Vitamin “A’ increases disease resistant capacity of the under five babies, prevents their night blindness and other diseases to ensure their healthier growth.
They came up with the opinion at the inaugural ceremony of the 'National Vitamin A Plus Campaign (Second Round) held on the 'Nagar Bhaban' premises in the city.
Rangpur Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Mozammel Hossain attended the function as the chief guest with Chief Executive Officer of Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) Akhter Hossain Azad in the chair. Chief Health Officer of RpCC Dr Kamruzzaman Ibne Taz and its Health Inspector Abdul Kaiyum, among others, addressed the function.
Dr Kamruzzaman Ibne Taz put importance on providing Vitamin A Plus Capsule to all under-five babies for increasing their disease resistant capacity to further reduce infant mortality rate and prevent night blindness.
