A schoolboy of Dalit community died yesterday morning from injuries he sustained during a clash over playing cricket on Friday. The dead was identified as Abir Robi Das, 14, a student of Class VIII of Asmat Ali Khan Institution (AK School) of the city. Joy Robi Das, father of victim, alleged that Miraj Mia, 14, son of Babul Mia and classmate of Abir, hit his son following an altercation over playing cricket in the area at 3.30 PM in front hotel One International near their house.
“Injured Abir was sent to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) immediately. Doctors of SBMCH referred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment. Yesterday morning the duty doctor declared Abir as dead,” father of Abir said. `I want the killer of my son brought to justice', he added. Shah Md. Awlad Hossain, officer-in-charge of Barisal Kotwali police station, said “Abir and Miraj were classmates and friends. We are yet to know any sort of previous enmity between them. On Friday afternoon they locked in altercation over playing cricket and at that time suddenly Miraj hit Abir on head with a cricket bat.”
