admission test at CU

Diaz murder accused get ‘special consideration’

STAFF REPORTER, Ctg

The authorities of Chittagong University (CU) allegedly have taken examination of three students, including two accused in Diaz Irfan Chowdhury murder case, in special consideration. The three students participated in one year Bachelor of Physical Education (BPED) course admission test on December 21 under the Department of Physical Education. They were absent on the admission test held on December 19. They were identified as Abu Turab Porosh, Abdul Malek and Tawhidul Islam. Of them Malek is vice president and Porosh is joint secretary of CU BCL abolished committee and also accused in central Chhatra League leader Diaz Irfan Chowdhury murder case.  Malek completed his post graduate from sociology department and Porosh completed MBA from marketing department from the university. They decided to take admission in the BPED course to hold their studentships in the university, sources said.

Malek and Parosh are reportedly a loyalist of Chittagong mayor AJM Nasir Uddin.

According to the sources, the written admission test of the Bachelor of Physical Education (BPED) course was held on December 19. Besides, on that day all the accused BCL leaders, who have been sued over the murder of Diaz, along with their followers, staged demonstration at the main gate of the university, demanding the immediate release of the assistant proctor and the withdrawal of the case. The admission seekers couldn’t participate on time in the exam due to the demonstrations. Though Malek and Parosh can not participate in the exam but they were involved in the blockade, said sources.

When contacted, CU VC Pro Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury said, “On December 19, there was a blockade on the campus. That’s why some students could not take part in the exam. Later, they applied for the exam in the department concerned. Therefore, the department had taken their exam specially.

“We have not seen who the accused in the murder case is and who is not. They have been attended  as admission-seekers,” said the VC.

Jalal Ahmed, assistant registrar of Physical Education department said, “Only 20 students participated in the exam though 25 seats are available. The results are yet to publish. We do not know the details of the three students who took part in the examination two days later. We only obey the orders of the higher authorities.”

Slain Diaz's sister Zubaida Sarwar Chowdhury alleged that the CU authorities took stand for the accused in the murder case from the beginning. It is a great proof to giving opportunity two accused to get admission in a special consideration. The police took Anwar Hossain to remand. But he has not yet dismissed from the university, she said.
