No need for BCL school committees: Quader

UNB

Criticising Bangladesh Chhatra League's concept of having school committees, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader yesterday said there is no need of such committees, reports UNB. "The concept of having school committees of Chhatra League is not right. There's no need to form school committees. This will draw flak for the party," he said.

Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, was addressing a programme organised by the BCL central committee at Abdul Karim Shahitto Bisharad auditorium of Bangla Academy, marking the Martyred Intellectuals Day and the Victory Day. On November 23, the central executive committee of Bangladesh Chattra league (BCL) issued a notice instructing all its organising units across the country to form ‘school committees’ at secondary schools.

The ruling party leader said students should focus more on study rather than politics. "It'll be an extra burden for the students if the politics makes its entry at the school level. The Aminur in Shahjadpur area yesterday and arrested him in a case filed over a bomb attack on Khaleda Zia’s office in Gulshan on February 16, 2015, said colleges and university students can be involved in the politics,” he said. He asked the BCL men to remain alert so that their activities cannot harm the party. Presided over by BCL President Saifur Rahman Sohag, its General Secretary SM Zakir Hossain also spoke at the programme.

The BCl, in its November 23 release, said the move to form school committees was taken to spread ‘the ideology of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman among the students’.  According to the release, the decision was taken also to expedite the organisational activities.   When contacted, BCL Secretary SM Zakir Hossain said the decision was taken as they felt Bangabandhu’s ideology should be in more focus among the younger generation. BCL central executive committee’s school-students affairs secretary Jainal Abedin was entrusted with the responsibility to coordinate the endeavour.
