Tk 3.4 cr Indian sarees seized
Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard in a drive seized Indian sarees worth Tk 3.44 crore in Rupsha Khan Jahan Ali Bridge area in Khulna early Friday.
Tipped-off, a team of coast guard, led by contingent commander of west zone Mujibur Rahman, raided the area and seized a truck loaded with Indian sarees at about 12:30am.
The sized smuggled goods were handed over to Khulna Customs, said Mujibur Rahman. However, none was arrested in this connection
Besides, detectives arrested eight robbers along with firearms from Phultola Bhoirab River ghat area on Thursday night. During the drive, police recovered one pipe gun, two cartridges of pistol and eight knives from the spot, said officer-in-charge Akkas Ali of Detective Branch of district police.
Man electrocuted in Rajshahi
A farmer died from electrocution in Godagari municipality area in Rajshahi on Thursday noon.
The deceased was identified as Saiful Islam, 45, son of late Sabdul Ali Mondal.
Saiful suffered injuries after he came in contact with a live electric wire while cutting a tree branch in front of his house at noon, said Hipzur Alam Munshi, officer-in-charge of Godagari Police Station.
He was taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, said Mosharraf Hossain, ward master of the hospital.
