Selectors face tough time to select team for home series

Selectors of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) selection panel are in selection dilemma ahead of the upcoming back-to-back home series as they have a good number of performers in their scanner from where it has been tough for them to pick and form the squad.

And so, they are taking some more times to pick the best possible performers for the next two consecutive series. But they assured that they will do their best to give chance to those who performed better for the last six months or one year.

Although there was a scheduled to announce the preliminary squad on December 21, they could not announce it. Now they’ll declare the squad on December 24 just after the conclusion of the National Cricket League (NCL).

Habibul Bashar Sumon, member of the BCB selection panel, acknowledged the matter, stating that they are really in dilemma to pick the players for the forthcoming home series.

“We’ve a good number of performers in our radar who have been performing better for the last few months. We’ve no major injury scares in our key squad of the national team. The performers we have in our scanner all are also in fine fettle. So, we are in a sweet selection dilemma to pick the best squad for the next series,” said Habibul Bashar Sumon.

“And so, we are taking some more days to fix the squad. We wanted to declare the primary squad for the imminent home series on December 21. But we will now announce it on December 24,” Sumon told media during the gap of the ongoing NCL match between Khulna Division and Dhaka Division at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothisthan (BKSP).

“But I can assure that those who are performing better they have in our vigil scanner and we are in favour of giving chances to them and they will get more chances,” he added.

Some players who toured with HP squad in Australia and England will get chances in the squad. Along with them, some BPL performers will also make their room this time around. Even, those who are performing well in the NCL will also get opportunity in the team.

It is leant that this year a good number of young players, who performed well in Australia and England for HP team and BPL as well as in NCL will get place in the primary squad of the two back-to-back home series.

Bangladesh will first play a tri-angular series with the involvement of the Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe and then play a bilateral series against the Islanders in between January and February.
