Although the price of onion has been witnessing an upward trend in the retail kitchen markets in the city, traders are expecting a huge fall in the price once the newly produced onion start to reach the city markets, reports UNB.
While visiting the kitchen markets at Dhanmondi, Mohammadpur, Mohakhali and Segun Bagicha in the city, this UNB correspondent found a kilogram of new onions was being sold at Tk 85 to Tk 90 while the price of the same amount of imported onions and old onions was Tk 80 to Tk 85 and Tk 100 to Tk 120 respectively. Wholesalers said the farmers of Faridpur and Pabna have started to harvest onion. Within a very few days, the onion will start to reach the city markets, said the wholesalers adding once the new onion hit the city markets, the price will start to reduce. On the other hand, the price of winter vegetables has been maintaining a standard trend in the kitchen market.
A kilogram of Brinjals is being sold at Tk 30 to Tk 40 while the same amount of new potatoes at Tk 20 to Tk 35, Beans at Tk 25 to Tk 45, Borboti at Tk 35 to Tk 45, green tomatoes at Tk 40 to Tk 50 and Cauliflower at Tk 10 to Tk 30 per piece. Visiting the fish markets, it was found that small fishes are being sold at Tk 250 to Tk 350 per kilo, Mola fish at Tk220 to Tk 250, Kajoli fish at Tk 320 to Tk 400, Tengra fish at Tk 250 to Tk 350, small Rui at Tk 140 to Tk 160, Big Rui at Tk 220 to Tk 300, Sharputi at Tk 120 to Tk 160, Pangash at Tk 90 to Tk 110 and Telapia at Tk 100 to Tk 140.
