Vitamin A increases disease resistant capacity: Experts

RANGPUR: Health experts at an advocacy meeting here recently called for providing Vitamin A to all under five babies to increase their disease resistant capacity and reduce death risks and prevent night blindness and other diseases, reports BSS.

They came up with the call at the advocacy meeting organised by Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) at its auditorium to make the National Vitamin A Plus Campaign (Second Round) to be held on December 23, 2017 successful.

Rangpur Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Mozammel Hossain attended the meeting as the chief guest with Chief Executive Officer of RpCC Akhter Hossain Azad in the chair.

Civil Surgeon Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam, Chief Health Officer of RpCC Dr Kamruzzaman Ibne Taz and its Health Inspector Abdul Kaiyum, among others, addressed.

The Civil Surgeon delivered welcome speech narrating about the importance of providing Vitamin A Plus Capsule to every under five baby to prevent various diseases for healthier growth.

Dr Taz laid emphasis on providing Vitamin A Plus Capsule to every under-five baby to increase their disease resistant capacity for further reducing infant mortality rate and preventing night blindness.

He said 630 supervisors and volunteers will provide Vitamin A Plus Capsules to over 1.28 lakh under five babies at 297 outreach centres in addition to the satellite teams in all 33 wards of the city on December 23.

The chief guest said Vitamin A Plus Capsule has no side effect and asked the parents not to become afraid and contact the health officials concerned if their babies would show vomiting tendency after taking the capsule.

“Supplementation of Vitamin A also reduces 30 percent measles-related and 33 percent diarrhoea-related death risks of the under five babies,” Dr Hossain added.

Akhter Hossain Azad in his concluding speech called upon the parents, teachers, public representatives, civil society members and media persons to make the upcoming National Vitamin A Plus Campaign successful.
