2 held with 60,000 yaba tablets
Detective Branch (DB) of police in a drive arrested two alleged drug traders with 60,000 yaba tablets from Khilgaon thana area in the capital on Saturday night.
The arrestees were M Hasan Ali, 31, and M Rakib Ali, 32.
A team of DB police, led by senior assistant commissioner of police M Shah-Nur-Alam, conducted a drive in the area and arrested the drug traders along with 60,000 yaba tablets from a truck, a DMP press release said. DB police also seized the truck. A case was filed in this connection.
Youth held with Indian liquor
SYLHET: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested a young man along with 101 bottles on Indian liquor from Uttar Jail Road area of the city on Saturday night.
The arrestee was Madud Ahmed, 3o, a resident of Polashpur village of Jakiganj upazila.
Rab sources said a team of the elite force, led by ASP MD Moin Uddin, conducted the drive in the area around 9pm and arrested Madud along with 101 bottles of Indian liquor. They also seized a private car.
Book on 'Bangabandhu' unveiled
A book on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman titled ‘Bangabandhu-Samata- Samrajyobad’ written by noted economist Abul Barakat was unveiled at Dhaka University Senate Bhaban.
Former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque unveiled the book as the chief guest while Advocate Barrister M Amir-ul Islam, Professor Emeritus of Dhaka University AK Azad Chowdhury, National Human Rights Commission Chairman Mizanur Rahman, Major General (retd) K M Shafiullah, Bir Uttam, former DUCSU VP Mahfuza Khanam also discussed on the book in this programme as special guest.
Woman electrocuted
RANGPUR: A woman died from electrocution in Rangpur, on Saturday afternoon, police and local sources said.
The deceased Fatema Begum, 46, wife of Atiar Rahman of village Khordobagbar Gomostapara under Badarganj upazila. Sources said Fatema was electrocuted after being caught by torn electric cable while going to her nearby chili field.
