New int'l standard for Panax Notoginseng put forward

The Traditional Chinese Medicine - Panax Notoginseng, a newinternational standard, was recently publicised in Kunming.

The Traditional Chinese Medicine – Panax Notoginseng is another international standard on the quality evaluation of Chinese medicinal products. It follows others, including Ginseng Seeds and Seedlings and Detection of Heavy Metals in Traditional Chinese Medicine. The announcement marks a major breakthrough in the standardization of Chinese medicines and is of great significance for introducing Chinese herbal remedies to the wider world.

Panax Notoginseng is an expansive category of Chinese herbal medicines. Yunnan province is the main area where Panax Notoginseng is grown, and accounts for 98 percent of China’s total production. At present, the total demand for the form of ginseng worldwide is about 20 million kilograms. Domestic demand accounts for 18 million kilograms, while overseas demand constitutes the remainder.

The new international standard for this type of ginseng will help protect authenticity, introduce related products to international markets and enhance the international influence of this Yunnan specialty.
