Nationalisation of 6,000 primary schools demanded

UNB

Bangladesh Non-Government Primary Teachers' Association on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina demanding nationalisation of 6,000 non-government schools as well as the job of 24,000 teachers working in these educational institutions, reports UNB.

As part of their scheduled programme, around 2,000 teachers from across the country gathered at the Children Welfare Parishad auditorium in Topkhana from where they started for the Prime Minister's Office in procession around 11am for submitting the memorandum, said a press release. However, police obstructed them at the High Court intersection. Later, the law enforcers allowed a four-member delegation, led by Bangladesh Non-Government Primary Teachers' Association Convener M Shahjahan Ali Sujon, to go to the PMO where they submitted the memorandum to the PMO director.

The association leaders said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman nationalised some 37,000 non-government primary schools in 1973 and present Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina nationalised 26,193 more such schools as well as the job of teachers, demanding allocation in the next budget for nationalising some 6,000 schools, which are yet to get these facilities, and the job of 24,000 teachers.
