Premier league likely to start Jan 18

CCDM retains players by choice system
Sports Reporter

Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) chairman Kazi Inam Ahmed vowed to bring back the aura of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, a task that some of his predecessors failed to do in the recent past.

Inam was given the charge of the standing committee, known as the guardian of the Dhaka’s club that normally the other BCB directors refused to take. However after being appointed as the chairman of the CCDM, he called a ‘views sharing’ meeting with the clubs after which he took some decisions to execute in the future.

His first and foremost priority would be to make the league competitive and bring back the spectators in the stadium and at the same time, he wanted the league to take place January-February, as it was scheduled traditionally.

“We have seen the league starting in rainy season or during the month of Ramadan, for which many clubs showed their concern. We have talked to the clubs and will have a meeting with them in January 2 or 3. Our plan is to bring back the league in the month of January-February. This year we’ll try to kick-off the league on January 18,” Inam told the reporters.

He confirmed that the ‘Players by Choice’ system will be retained even though the players had had reservation on the system. According to Inam, the clubs requested the CCDM to retain the system in place of traditional players transfer.

“We decided to retain it. The clubs had a request while we saw that the national players will be unable to play the league. Every club could retain four players from the previous year and we’ll try to complete the process of the ‘Players by Choice’ eight or 10 days before the start of the league.”

Inam gave the clarification to why they retained the system: “The clubs told us that the game gradually becomes unsustainable as there were various demands and others expenditure coming into the fore, a thing what the clubs are unable to bear.”

“But cricketers would get top priority since the league is the only income source for most of the players in the country.”
