Editors� Council wants sec 57 scrapped

The Editors’ Council yester­day strongly demanded the scrapping of section 57 of the Information and Commu­nication Technology Act.
At a meeting, the Editors’ Council also condemned the misuse of the section, saying that the implementation of such laws bars free journalism.
Criticising the arrest and harassment of journalist Probir Sikdar, the speakers at the meeting demanded that Section 57 (1) and (2) under the ICT Act be repealed, says a press release of the organisation. Editors’ Council President and Samakal Editor Golam Sarwar chaired the meeting at The Daily Star Centre in the capital.
