It was being heard since the last few months that Bangladesh are likely to host the next edition of the 2018 ACC Asia Cup Cricket tournament. If it’s true, it’ll then be sixth time for Bangladesh after its inception. They had hosted an all-Asian tournament in 1988, 2000, 2012, 2014 and 2016. Of them, only the previous edition was held on T20 format.
BCB publication committee chairman Jalal Younus acknowledged the news but he said that the discussion to host the next Asia Cup by Bangladesh is being aired is too primary.
Originally it was scheduled to hold in India what was decided last few years ago in ACC meeting but they are now reluctant to host it. So, the question has been raised which country will host it which is yet to fix after India’s reluctant.
“It’s totally informal discussion that Bangladesh is likely to host the 2018 Asia Cup,” said Jalal Younus.
“We’re yet to get any formal proposal from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). The discussion is too primary,” Jalal told media while he was launching a restaurant ‘Karaai N Curry’ as the special guest in the capital with cricketer Mushfiqur Rahim yesterday. The next Asia Cup is scheduled to take place on 50-over format before the 2019 ICC World Cup. Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in 2016 had decided that they will arrange Asia Cup prior to every ICC World Cup. If ICC World Cup is held on Twenty20 cricket, Asia Cup will then be a T20-affair but if it’s held on one-day format, it’ll since be a 50-over affair.
The BCB director said that they don’t make any hastiness to appoint their head coach for the national team what is left vacant for the last one and half-a-months.
“The discussion regarding the appointment of the head coach is going on. Who will be the head coach, the decision, which is yet to finalise,” the BCB publication committee chairman said.
“The board president has talked with some coaches. We’re also trying to rope in. But who will take the charge which is not yet to fix,” he also said.
“No new name has come in our discussion. All are those in the discussion table whose names you have already heard,” he added.
When asked it’s possible to bring any coach before the start of the training camp on December 27, Jalal said, “It’s difficult to say that bringing any coach before the start of the training camp for the next home series. But we’re trying our best.
“We could not make any haste to appoint a head coach. We want to appoint a coach at least for two years. So, it’s tough to appoint anyone abruptly,” he added.
He said that they are working with the suspected bowlers in BPL Al Amin Hossain and Sharifullah, who will soon attend the test of remodeling their bowling action if needed.
“The bowling actions of the suspected bowlers, Al Amin Hossain and Mohammad Sharifullah, in BPL are going on. They’ll soon attend the bowling test. The footage we’ve what we’ve already provided to their coaches. They’re working on the basis of it,” Jalal told in response to a query.
