PM urges Japan to relocate industries to Bangladesh

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday asked new Japanese envoy in Dhaka Masato Watanabe to visit Bangladeshs special economic zones and take initiatives to relocate their industries here, reports UNB.

PMs Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.
The Prime Minister congratulated the new envoy and welcomed him expressing the hope that the relations between the Bangladesh and Japan in the areas of economy, culture, education, agriculture and infrastructure development would be strengthened further in the days to come. Stating that Japan is one of the major development partners of Bangladesh since its independence, the Prime Minister said her governments first and foremost priority agenda is the countrys development.
Pointing out the steps taken for the development of various sectors, Hasina said her government has planned to make Bangladesh a middle-income country by 2021 and developed one by 2041.
She said her government has given importance to connectivity to expedite economic growth and sought more Japanese support in the fishery sector, particularly harvesting and processing of Tuna fish.
Masato Watanabe said many investors of his country are keen to invest in Bangladesh considering the lucrative offer and ideal atmosphere prevailing here for foreign investment.
He hoped that Bangladesh in the coming days would get more direct investment from Japan.
The Japanese envoy said he has already met the agriculture minister of Bangladesh and discussed ways to strengthen the longstanding collaboration in this sector.
He also mentioned Japanese assistance to Matarbari power project.
During the discussion, Watanabe also referred to the mourning month of August in Bangladesh noting that this month is a month of mourning for the people of the both countries.
In Bangladesh, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was brutally killed in this month in 1975 while Japan experienced the tragic atom bomb attacks in this month in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, he recalled.
Sheikh Hasina expressed her happiness for translating the Unfinished Memoirs of Bangabandhu in Japanese language by a Japanese litterateur.
PMO secretary Suraiya Begum was, among others, present on the occasion.
