Three-day victory fair begins at JU

A three-day Victory Fair began on the Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus yesterday amid festive mood.

The Teachers Students Centre (TSC) of the university organises the fair marking the victory day of Bangladesh.

JU Vice Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam inaugurated the fair as the chief guest on the central cafeteria premises at 10am.

Addressing the event, JU VC Prof Farzana said, “Bangladesh has achieved many glories in past 46 years of its independence. It has many possibilities in the world map.”

She urged all to work together to implement all the possibilities.

Presided over by JU TSC Director Professor Bashir Ahmed, JU Pro VC (academic) Prof Abul Hossain, Treasurer Professor Sheikh Md Mozurul Huq addressed the function as special guest.

After the inaugural session, the VC with other guests visited different stalls at the fair.  Meanwhile, a photography exhibition on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was started on the JU cafeteria premises while JU VC Prof Farzana Islam inaugurated the event as the chief guest.

Int’l confce on genocide, mass violence held

The two-day 2nd International Conference on Genocide and Mass Violence held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban auditorium of Dhaka University (DU) on Thursday.

The DU Centre for Genocide Studies organised the conference in cooperation with the Cultural Affairs Ministry.

Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor addressed the opening session of the conference as the chief guest with DU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman in the chair.

Former teacher of the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, India Prof Ashis Nandy delivered the keynote speech.

A large number of academicians, lawyers, researchers and human rights activists from home and abroad are participating in the conference.

77 IU students get President Gold Medal Awards

KUSHTIA: A total of 77 students of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia will get the President Gold Medal awards for their outstanding academic results.

The students will receive the medals from President also the Chancellor of the university M Abdul Hamid at the 4th convocation of the university to be held on January 7, university officials said.

The medal and award sub-committee of the convocation selected the students who achieved brilliant results in masters examinations under five faculties of the university from the academic sessions 1998-1999 to 2013-14, said M Anamul Islam, member of the sub-committee. Of the selected students, 15 students are from Theology and Islamic

Studies faculty, 15 from Humanities and Social Sciences faculty, 16 from Law and Shariah Faculty, 16 from Business Administration faculty and 15 students from Applied Science and Technology faculty, said officials of the university academic office.

The selected students have been asked to complete required procedures within December 20. Besides, the detail list and other information about the President Gold Medal Award will be available on the university website (www.iu.ac.bd/convocation) soon.

Anti-Corruption Day observed at JU

SAVAR: The Anti-Corruption Day was observed on the Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus with daylong programmes.

Youth Engagement and Support (YES), an associative student group of Transparency International organised an anti-corruption discussion at the Central Shahid Minar premises marking the day.

JU Treasurer Prof Sheikh Mojurul Huq addressed the function as the chief guest. Presided over by Advisor of YES group, JU unit Prof Bashir Ahmed, Dean of Arts and Humanities Faculty Prof Mozammel Haque, Associate Professor ASM Firoz–Ul–Hasan and Lecturer Kamrul Hasan also addressed the programme among others. After the programme, participants signed at the anti-corruption oath.

Besides, marking the day, anti-corruption documentary exhibition organized by YES group, JU unit was held at Arts and Humanities Faculty premises.
