Onion still pricey

Most vegetables cheaper

Onion prices remained unchanged in the capital's kitchen markets, though the local variety has arrived. The local onion was selling at Tk. 120-130 per kg and the Indian onion Tk. 70-80. At this time last year, onion prices were Tk. 35-40. Onion prices began to rise from last October. In September, the price of local onion was Tk. 40 a kg. It jumped to Tk. 80 in October. From mid-October to mid-November, the local onion was sold at Tk. 80-90 a kg, and by the end of November, it touched Tk. 100. And the high price remains unchanged this month. Retail traders have the same excuse: retail prices have increased as wholesale market prices are high. Traders are making huge profits and are not willing to control the prices. Tomato, which was sold at Tk. 100 per kg for a long time, is available at Tk. 50. The price of green tomato ranges between Tk. 20-30. Chillies were being sold at Tk. 120-130. Talking to traders, it was known that prices of bean, radish and gourd are also on the decline. A kg of bean is available in the capital's markets at Tk. 20-30.

Radish was being sold at Tk.10-20. A week ago, the price of this vegetable was above Tk. 20. Last week, the price of gourd was high at Tk. 50. It is now Tk. 30-40.

But the price of cauliflower, considered the main vegetable of winter, has increased slightly. It was Tk. 20 last week, but has increased to Tk. 25-30. The price of cabbage was the same as the previous week, Tk. 20-30. New potatoes are included in the price list. New potatoes are available at Tk. 20-30 per kg. It was Tk. 40 last week. The price of old potato too has fallen. It was being sold at Tk. 10-15 per kg.
