Bangladesh will be benefited from the new proposed five-year-long Future Tours Programme (FTP) prepared by International Cricket Council, the highest governing body of the global cricket.
Under the new FTP, Bangladesh have been allotted 35 Tests in five-year cycle from 2019-2023, the number which is two less than India but seven more than Pakistan. Bangladesh will play the most number of the Test matches against the three top-ranked teams, who are known as ‘Big Three’ in international cricket.
Bangladesh are scheduled to play two more Tests per year under the new FTP. As per the current FTP, Bangladesh were scheduled to play 33 Tests over five years, whereas in the new one they will play 35 over four.
The Test series Bangladesh will play under the new FTP all those will be a two-Test series. After winning Tests against England and Sri Lanka following their win-like performance against New Zealand and India, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) was vocal in ICC to get three-Test series. But their demands are not met in the proposed FTP.
As per the new FTP, England will play the highest number of Tests which will be 46 Tests, whereas Australia will play 40 Tests and India 37.
Pakistan and New Zealand will play the identical number of 28 Tests, while Sri Lanka and West Indies will play 29 each in the five-year cycle that triggered anger amongst them.
The representatives from all the ICC’s 12-full member countries including India, England, Australia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, South Africa, West Indies, Zimbabwe along with Afghanistan and Ireland met in Singapore on December 7 and 8 respectively and to flesh out the details of the FTP.
ICC therefore will go over it in its annual conference which will be held in its headquarters in June.
Pakistan has got just 38 ODIs in the new FTP as it is the lowest among all teams, even lower than that of Afghanistan (41), Zimbabwe (40) and Ireland (42).
India in comparison play 61 ODIs, West Indies which are yet to qualify for the next World Cup play 62, Bangladesh 52 and Sri Lanka play 48.
Bangladesh will play 50 T20Is and Pakistan 38 T20Is in the four years – also the joint-lowest of the established Test-playing nations. Even Ireland will play six more T20Is, India play 61, West Indies 55 and New Zealand play 49.
