Raphael Odovin continued his scoring spree as Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club defeated Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra by 3-1 in the Saif Power Battery Bangladesh Premier League football yesterday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Jamal regained the second position after winning the match and closed the gap with the league leaders Chittagong Abahani when the Port City outfits are on top with 42 points and Jamal assembled 40 from 17 matches each.
Muktijoddha after conceding the defeat remained in the danger zone of relegation when they could manage only 11 points from 17 matches and from 16 matches Farashganj collected 10 points.
Jamal, who lost the second position after an unpredictable 1-1 draw with Rahmatganj but bounced back strongly in an eventful match trouncing Arambagh in a 10 goals thriller in the previous match by 6-4 with Raphael slamming a hat-trick.
It was a slightly harsh when Muktijoddha started as if intent on proving their attacking capability and made a convincing case for about two minutes, as a couple of sharp moves put the favourites in early difficulty.
Jamal took over the possession, though looked a bit disorganised and were playing some indisciplined game but took lead right on 20th minutes through Raphael and added couple of goals.
Raphael opened the scoring in the 20th minute, firing a low shot into the net from some five yards to goal line when a Javen Khan long rage effort hit the corner of the post and returned to play as Nigerian rushed quick to slam home (1-0). It was his fourth goal in consecutive two matches and overall 13 goals this season. The second goal came on 37th minute, when a stooping header of Nurul Absar at the near post on a Khan Tara corner (2-0) following a Solomon King’s attempts narrowly missed the side post on half an hour mark.
Raphael, who was looking for change after 10 minutes of the second half, scored his second of the match and fifth in two matches, extended the Jamal’s lead to 3-0 on 53rd minute and this time it was an intelligent strike from the forward when his volley on a Solomon cross found the far post just giving no chance to the defenders or goalkeeper to halt (3-0).
Muktijoddha came to reduce one goal and also demonstrated very offensive performance with playing better game but it was too late for the All Reds, after conceding three goals.
Towhid was enough lucky to send the ball into near post when Jamal’s second custodian Samiul Islam could not grip a long range shot, as the ball slumbered form his hands and Towhid got the ball possession on 61st minute (1-3).
