Array of programmes for 47th Victory Day

The nation will celebrate the 47th Victory Day today, paying tributes to martyrs who sacrificed their lives to liberate the country from the clutches of Pakistani occupation forces in 1971.

 Socio-cultural organisations and educational institutions across the country will organise special programmes.

 The Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) will hold a day-long programme, featuring discussion, recitation, plays, music and dance performances and art exhibition.

It will be presided over by the BSA director general, Liakaut Ali Lucky. Former Home Minister Advocate Sahara Khatun will attend the discussion as chief guest, while Language Movement veteran Kamal Lohani will be present as special guest. Shahjalal University of Science and Technology professor, Muhammed Zafar Iqbal, and Dhaka University Fine Arts Faculty Dean, Md Delwar Hossain, will take part in the discussion.

 The cultural part of the event will feature group dance performances with patriotic songs led by Golam Mostafa Khan, Nilufar Wahid Papri, Farhana Chowdhury Baby and Sohel Rohman.

 Besides, the Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote, Banglar Mukh and Udichi Shilpi Gosthi will present chorus music rendition at the event.

 Theatre (Bailey Road) will stage a special show of its highly-acclaimed production, ‘Payer Awaj Pawa Jay’ at the Experimental Theatre Hall of the BSA. Directed by the late theatre personality, Abdullah Al Mamun, ‘Payer Awaj Pawa Jay’ is one of the masterpieces by prolific writer Syed Shamsul Haq. The production had its debut in 1976 and played an important role in the neo-theatre movement of Bangladesh. The play was recently redirected and designed by Sudip Chakroborthy.

 Channel i has organised a day-long fair titled ‘Desh Bondhu Group-Channel i Bijoy Mela 2017’ at the channel’s premises in the Tejgaon area. The programme will begin at 10am in the presence of freedom fighters, artistes of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, members of Bangladesh Football and noted cultural personalities. The stalls of the fair will offer books, documents, photographs, films, diary of the Liberation War. Veteran artists will participate in paintings based on the theme of the Liberation War. At the fair the new edition of Bangabandhu's historic speech on the 7th of March will be shown.

 Dhaka University, in association with the cultural organisation, Chhayanaut, will organise a programme titled ‘Sokole Mile Desh-Gaan Gaibar, Desh-Kotha Bolbar’ at the central playground of the university. DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman will inaugurate the event at 3:40pm.

 The programme will feature group dance performace, solo music performance and recitation.

 At the event, eminent theatre personality Hasan Imam will recite a poem of Rudra Mohammad Shahidullah ‘Batashe Lasher Gondho’.  In the solo part, Liasa Ahmed Lisa will render music, while Farhana Akhtar and Bijan Chandra Mistry will perform a duet.
