AL leader’s body exhumed

The body of local Awami League leader Milon Sarder, who was hacked to death by a group of criminals on November 6, was exhumed at Padmabila village in Sadar upazila on Thursday noon for fresh autopsy.
Following a court order, the body of Milon, organising secretary of Basundia union unit of the ruling party, was exhumed around 12 noon in the presence of executive magistrate Kazi Nazib Hasan, said inspector Matiur Rahman, in-charge of Jessore Sadar Police Camp.
The body was later sent to Jessore General Hospital for autopsy, said the executive magistrate.
On December 9, family members of the deceased filed an appeal to the court seeking its order to carry out a fresh post mortem to ascertain the reason behind the death.
A group of miscreants hacked Milon at HMM Road in the district town on November 6 while the AL leader was returning home after taking part in a rally, leaving him injured.
Later, he was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the capital where he succumbed to his injuries on December 5.
Later, a case was filed with Kotwali Police Station, said deceased’s brother Shilon Sarder.
Public awareness key to stopping child marriage: Speaker
Dhaka: Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Thursday enhancing public awareness alongside enforcement of laws is needed to resist child marriage in the country, reports UNB.
“All should work together to prevent the child marriage in the society,” she said at a rally in Ullapara of Sirajganj, said a Parliament Secretariat handout here.
The Speaker was addressing as the chief guest in the rally on ‘Women Empowerment and Prevention of Child Marriage’ at Ullapara Government Akbar Ali College ground.
“There are social and economic reasons behind the child marriage.
The public representatives will have to aware the people about the consequences of child marriage and legal provisions in the regards,” Dr Shirin said.
She urged all to make neighbours aware against the child marriage to get good results in removing the social disease. The Speaker said different steps taken by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have made the women empowered to a large extent.
Noting that the half of the country’s population is women, she said the development of women community is a part of the overall development of the country.
