Sumon Paul’s exhibition on Rohingyas underway at EMK Center

A two-week photo exhibition titled ‘In Limbo’ by photographer Sumon Paul is currently underway at EMK Centre, Dhanmondi in the capital. The exhibition showcases photographs of the Rohingyas and their stories of persecution, which is one of the biggest tragedies of the 21st century. The Rohingya, a mostly Muslim ethnic minority in Myanmar, have been called ‘The world’s most persecuted minority’ and recent events have added dramatically to their misery. After 25th August 2017 more than 6,17,000 Rohingyas have fled their native land Myanmar to seek refuge in Bangladesh among which mostly are children, women and old people.

Crammed in makeshift camps, these people being washed off by the Myanmar government settling in Bangladesh belong to neither of the two countries and are considered to be in limbo, by themselves and the rest of the world.

Sadly, the Rohingyas have no place to call home and are subjected to living in makeshift camps near Cox’s Bazar. Their household and lives remain uncertain. What will be their future? How long will they remain in limbo?

Photographer Sumon Paul shows his interest is in Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh to shed light on the plight of the Rohingyas, who are literally caught in limbo and a question of their future will arise among the Dhaka audiences.

The exhibition remains open to all every day 9:30am to 8pm, until December 21.
