West Indian players ruled the rooster of Twenty20 cricket with their explosive batting and big-scoring abilities what are well-known to the cricket world.
Yesterday they proved it yet again in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) blockbuster tournament. So far 12 centuries have been produced in BPL since its inception in 2012, eight of which was struck by players of the West Indies, who grabbed World T20 title twice.
Three centuries have been made so far in the current BPL. When it was deemed that this edition will be finished with no century, T20’s master class batsman Chris Gayle ended the drought of the century by striking the first century in BPL what he did in the eliminator match against Khulna Titans on December 8. He again repeated the feat against Dhaka Dynamites in the final yesterday.
The mercurial batsman is the lone player, who had a string of record of centuries in BPL. Gayle, who previously slammed three centuries in BPL, clouted 18 sixes and five boundaries in his unbeaten 69-ball 146.
Gayle’s compatriot Johnson Charles enlisted his name in the BPL centurion list as the second batsman this season.. He completed his century that was his career-best innings with just 62 deliveries. Finally his unbeaten innings that was emblazoned with seven sixes and nine fours in his 63-ball 105.
Earlier, West Indian batsman Evin Lewis and all-rounder Dwayne Smith blasted centuries in BPL as the second and third West Indian batsmen after Chris Gayle, who started the proceedings as the Caribbean Islanders.
A total of three batsmen from Bangladesh including Sabbir Rahman Rumman, Mohamamd Ashraful and Shahriar Nafees clattered centuries in BPL. Ahmed Shehzad is the one-off Pakistan player has a BPL century.
