Dhaka Dynamites captain and coach are sanguine about defending their BPL title what they had lifted in an emphatic vein as the red-hot favourites in the fourth edition of the 2015-2016 season.
This time the star-studded team already justified their muscles with bat and ball and placed themselves in the BPL summit clash as the first BPL franchisee team. They have some marquee players the likes of Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine, Evin Lewis, Shahid Afridi and Shakib Al Hasan who can change the complexion of the match at any time.
They evolved throughout this T20 tournament riding on their jaw-dropping performances and seek to lift the coveted title for the second consecutive time under the banner of the Dynamites.
The defending champions will compete against the winner of the Qualifier-2 fixture either Rangpur Riders or Comilla Victorians in the summit clash of the BPL fifth edition today.
At the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS), the match- a night affair, will kick start at 6:00pm.
The Dynamites players honed their skills and techniques in their pre-match day practice session at the BCB-National Cricket Academy (NCA) ground before doing their final showdown.
Prior to the start of their intense training session, Dhaka Dynamites icon-turned-captain Shakib Al Hasan spoke to media, wherein he reiterated his pre-tournament words and said that they will attempt their best to clinch the trophy whoever comes in the BPL final.
“We played against both Rangpur Riders and Comilla Victorians. Of them, we had played two matches against Rangpur and three against Comilla. So, each team knows well each other,” said Shakib Al Hasan, who regained his captaincy in Test after a six-year lull.
“The final match will be fantastic and exciting whoever comes in the final. But as I play for a team, I will obviously seek to lift the title of the BPL championship,” Shakib told. “It’s important to play better cricket in the given day. One-two players could change the game in T20. The biggest matter what I want the final will be a good match and that everybody enjoy the game,” he added.
The Dynamites captain said that the players gained their form what they had lacks in the middle of the tournament are now raring to prove it again in their last showdown.
“Our bowling attack is really good. With the three key spinners, Abu Haider Rony have also bowled good throughout the tournament. Mosaddek has also done well. Overall, the bowling attack has done well. The batting is now consistent though there were some inconsistencies now and then in the past,” the 30-year-old premier all-rounder said. “We’ve also momentum. We’ll try to win another BPL final. There are some more star cricketers here in Dynamites contingent. In such match, everybody feels an urgency to do well for the team,” he added.
Dynamites head coach Khaled Mahmud Sujon shared the same sentiment with its captain, stating that they will try to justify their supremacy again to lift the BPL title whoever comes in the final clash.
“Both the opponents are known. Rangpur and Comilla are stronger sides and have been playing better brand of cricket. But we are poised for the final whoever comes in the final. So, I think the team, who will play better cricket, will be winners. We expect any of the teams. It’s not that we have to play different game with the different team. Actually we’re happy to play against any team,” Khaled Mahmud said.
“Dhaka were the best on papers while they formed their team for the BPL. At this moment, we’re the best as we cruised first to the final. Actually the team had been formed for retaining the BPL championship,” Sujon also said.
“We've the ammunition in the team what is needed for it. We've Twenty20 specialists the likes of (Kieron) Pollard, (Sunil) Narine, (Evin) Lewis, (Shahid) Afridi and Shakib (Al Hasan) in the team who are match winners also. Everybody has kept its credential. Shakib played well for us in our bad day. He showed his excellence with bat and ball against Rangpur Riders. I believe, we're capable of winning the final. We also deserve it,” he added.
