Pro-AL Blue Panel sweeps DUTA polls

The pro-Awami League Blue Panel swept the Dhaka University Teachers Association (DUTA)  election as it bagged 14 out of 15 executive committee posts. Earth and Environmental Sciences Faculty Prof Maksud Kamal and Business Faculty’s dean Prof Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam of blue panel were elected as president and general secretary respectively. Prof Kamal bagged 949 votes while his white panel rival Prof ABM Obaidul Islam 477 votes while Professor Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam bagged 725 votes and his rival from white panel Professor Luthfor Rahman bagged 679 votes.

In the polls, 1,502 out of 2,010 teachers cast their votes from 10am to 2pm on Monday. DUTA election commissioner Chemistry department Prof Tofail Ahmad Chowdhury announced the results in afternoon at the university’s teachers club.

Computer Science & Engineering department Prof Hasanuzzaman was elected an lone executive committee member in the polls from pro-BNP-Jamaat white panel.

The other office bearers are-- vice-president Prof Imdadul Huq, Treasure Momotajuddin Ahmed, joint-secretary Tazin Aziz Chowdhury and members are Chandranath Poddar, Zeenat Huda, Muhammad Samad, Aftab Ali Seikh, Ziaur rahman, Nizamul Huq Bhuiyan, Sadeka Halim, Sabita Rizwana Rahman and Soumitra
