Cold-related diseases hit children

Children are increasingly getting attacked with cold-related diseases in Chuadanga due to fluctuation in temperature during day and night. A total of 143 children infected with diarrhoea and pneumonia have been admitted to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital during the last three days.
According to hospital sources, of 143 children 114 have been attacked with diarrhoea and 35 with pneumonia. With the increased number of patients accommodation has become a great concern for the hospital authorities.
Rahima Khatun, mother of a child patient said as she could not be able to manage a seat, the condition of her baby deteriorated because they had to stay on the floor.
Mahabubur Rahman Milon, child consultant of the hospital said due to cold weather prevailing across the country children become vulnerable to cold related diseases like pneumonia and diarrhoea.
Poor patients in Magura get PM’s financial support
Magura: Some 25 poor patients here, who are suffering from life threatening diseases like cancer, kidney, paralysis and liver ailments, received financial assistance from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund on Sunday, reports UNB.
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, at a programme at Magura deputy commissioner’s office, distributed a grand total of Tk 12.50 lakh among the poor patients.
Kamrul Laila Jolly, MP, handed over Tk 50,000 each to 25 poor patients. With Magura DC Atikur Rahman in the chair, the programme was addressed by Sadar upazila parishad chairman M Rustam Ali and local leaders.
Man held with 15 gold bars
Rajshahi: Department of Narcotics Control yesterday arrested a man ans seized 15 pieces of gold bars worth about Tk 75 lakh from his possession in Rajshahi's Godagari Upazila, reports UNB.
The arrestee is identified as Liton Ali Sheikh, 30, of Jaunpur village in Sirajganj District. Rajshahi Narcotics Control Department Deputy Director M Lutfor Rahman said they recovered 15 pieces of gold bar from Liton while one of their patrolling units was searching buses of upazila's Sultanganj area.
He said Liton was carrying the gold to Chapainawabganj border area for smuggling them into India.
Narsingdi was liberated today

Narsingdi was liberated from the occupation of Pakistan Army by the freedom fighters on December 12 in 1971.
The district administration and Narsingdi Freedom Fighters Association and different political parties have chalked out programmes to celebrate the day. Narsingdi, 55 kilometers away from capital Dhaka, had played glorious role in the historic Language Movement, Anti-Ayub Movement and the Liberation War.
The people of Narsingdi started taking preparation for resisting the Pakistani Army by setting 20 training camps, participated by hundreds of youths and students. The freedom struggle in Narsingdi was under Sector 2, led by Major Generel (rtd) Shafiullah. On April 6, Pakistan Air Force dropped bombs killing about 12 persons and burning down hundreds of rice and jute warehouses and shops.
On April 7, they set up main camps at Narsingdi Telephone Office, Narsingdi pourashava, and resorted to killing, raping, looting and setting fire to houses and buildings.
On this day in 1971, freedom fighters along with general public attacked Pakistan Army and freed Narsingdi from Pakistani occupation. A total of 116 heroic sons were martyred at different places in the district during the decisive fight against Pakistan occupation forces in the district. Meanwhile, Narsingdi district administration has taken up different programme, including a reception to freedom fighters, injured freedom fighters and their family members at about 11.00 am, discussion meeting and cultural function, celebrate the day.
Jamaat ameer among 5 held
Habiganj: Members of Rapid Action Battalion arrested five Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists, including its Sadar upazila unit ameer, form Dighalbagh village in Sadar upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
The detainees are Abdul Kuddus, ameer of Sadar upazila unit of Jamaat, Abul Kalam, Abdur Noor, Nazrul Islam, Ruhul Amin, residents of Dighalbagh village.
A team of Rab-9 conducted the drive in the area and arrested the five men on suspicion of operatives of Jamaatul Mujaheedin Bangladesh (JMB) along with jihadi books and anti-government leaflets, Yeasinul Haq, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
Missing trader found dead
Chadpur: Body of businessman Saheb Ali, who was missing since 5th Dec, was recovered from Baghulia-Dighirpar bridge area of Kachua Upazila on Sunday morning, reports UNB.
The deceased was Saheb Ali, 45, son of late Keramat Ali, a resident of Pathoir village of the upazila.
Saheb Ali was missing from 5th Dec after going to the local market for his business. After spotting the body, pedestrians informed police, said Sadekur Rahman, In-Charge of Sacha Police Outpost.
Later, police recovered the body and sent it to Chandpur Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, he said.
Arms, ammo seized in C’nawabganj
CHAPAINAWABGANJ: Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested an alleged arms peddler with three pistols, six magazines and 14 rounds of bullet from a mango orchard at Lachmanpur village under Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district on Sunday night, reports BSS.
The arrested person was identified as Md. Abdul Karim, 24, son of Md. Emaj Uddin of Jaminpur Purbapara village under Shibganj upazila of the district.
RAB said acting on a secret information, an operation team of RAB-5 from Chapainawabganj camp raided the area at around 7 pm and arrested Karim with the arms and ammunitions.
