Muggers snatch Tk 40 lakh posing themselves as DB men

Muggers snatched away Tk 40 lakh at gunpoint from the employees of a garments factory of Uttara in the capital, introducing themselves as DB police on Wednesday, reports UNB.

Rasel Ahmed, commercial manager of “Tokyo Mode Ltd,” located at Road no-5 under Uttara Sector-5, told the news agency that Sayeed Mahmud, an accountant of the company, went to Dhaka Bank's Uttara Branch by a microbus at Road no-13 under the same sector from the office to withdraw Tk 40 lakh at around 12:30 pm. The money was drawn to pay salaries of officials and employees of another garments factory of the company in Gazipur Thursday, he said.

When the accountant entered the microbus along with the drawn amount, a group of muggers, numbering five, identifying themselves as DB police swooped on the vehicle. They overpowered Sayeed and his driver Robiul at gun point and drove away in the microbus to Kuril Bishwa Road, Rasel Ahmed said.

Finally, the muggers fled the scene with the booty boarding another microbus leaving Sayeed and Driver Rasel on the street of Kuril Bishwa Road area around 2.30 pm. However, the muggers left the company microbus on the street, he said.

Contacted, Officer-in-Charge of Airport Police Station Nur-E-Azam said the factory owners have already come to the police station.
