Members of the 2017 Bangladesh News Media Workshop recently made an exchange visit to the Yunnan Daily Press Group(YDPG in short).

Jointly sponsored by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, and the Ministry of Commerce, the workshop aimed at allowing Bangladeshi media members a better understanding of China’s press. Another goal was to help develop the country’s economic and social culture, while strengthening exchanges and cooperation between two countries in the field of news and communication. The workshop is scheduled from November 21 to December 11, with a total of 21 high-level government officials and senior media professionals attending.

According to the head of the Institute of the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, in addition to some sessions in Beijing, Yunnan has been specially chosen as a site to visit because of the province’s important location bordering South and Southeast Asia. At the same time, Yunnan media, represented by the Yunnan Daily Press Group, is developing rapidly in terms of new media and international cooperation that is of great significance for South and Southeast Asia countries.

Workshop attendees visited Yunnan .cn,a website of the Yunnan Daily Press Group, speaking with relevant officials. Yunnan Daily Press Group’s integrated development and cooperation with The Independent from Bangladesh has gained attention.

MD Mizan-Alam, an official from the Bangladesh Information Department, noticed how Yunnan’s traditional media has responded to the rise of new media. He thinks that the practices put in place by Yunnan media can be a reference for media outlets in his country.

Romana Sharmin, an official at the Bangladesh Chancellery Information Office said that she wants to learn more about Yunnan’s tourism and culture through Yunnan Daily Press Group’s overseas platform.
